From industry to health technology
Keypoint Oy's story begins in 1991 when physicist Jorma Orkosalo returned to Finland from California and began producing industrial lasers in his garage. While working abroad, he had picked up a bold attitude to implementing his ideas and the ability to see opportunities around him. He brought that attitude home with him. In 2011, Keypoint added laser therapy devices to its product range. The laser technology remained the same, but the optical power and wavelength were adjusted to be suitable for the treatment of animals.
"I started researching laser therapy after hearing about it from physicists working at Kuopio University Hospital while we were designing a laser for positioning patients during cancer treatment. They told me about Dr. Pekka J. Pöntinen, who used laser as a medical treatment, and he had written a book about the subject in 1988."
